Research as Coursework

Dandelion seedheadIf your coursework involves a research project you may find that you’re given a research topic, but you have to develop the research question. For example, you may be asked to conduct an experiment on 'seed germination'. Within this research topic, there are many aspects of seed germination you could investigate, including:

  • the effect of environmental factors on seed germination
  • the effect of predation on the success rates of seed germination
  • the effect of stratification treatments on the rate of seed germination.

In other situations you may be required to develop your own research topic and research question.

You may have more control over the development of your research question for your final year project, therefore you are more likely to be able to choose a research question that is of particular interest to you.

There are, however, several points you should consider before you begin any research project.
