Figures, tables and plates should, if appropriate, be used extensively in your written reports and when used properly can add a great deal of value to your work. There are certain factors to consider before you annotate your work, however, including:
In as much as high quality, well placed figures, tables and plates can be beneficial to your presentation, low quality or poorly placed annotations can detract from your work. It's also important to make sure what you add is relevant - there's no point in having a beautiful, colourful photograph of tropical fish in a literature review on pharmaceutical drugs trials!
