Nitrogen content of the leaves was measured by grinding them in acetone and measuring the absorbance as described by Crook (2006). A chlorophyll content meter was used to measure the chlorophyll concentration of leaves whilst they were still attached to the plant. The results of the two methods of nitrogen concentration analyses were compared.
