Example of an Introduction: Sustainability of Cod Reserves
The above introduction exhibits the following characteristics:

  1. Title should stand out from the rest of the text - bold or larger text
  2. Good use of bullet points with only a few descriptive words
  3. Make sure you're not just reading the sentences from the slide. Might be better to stick with the three main points and talk around them
  4. Good contrast between the background and text colour. Check what it looks like on a projector screen - the black background may be a bit overpowering.

The above introduction exhibits the following characteristics:

  1. Need to reference the source of the graph
  2. Excellent use of a graph to demonstrate trends
  3. Check that the graph can be read and deciphered from the back of the room
  4. Could increase the size of the graph to fit the whole slide.

The above introduction exhibits the following characteristics:

  1. Title could be nearer the top of the page - there's a lot of free space
  2. Who/What is ICES? Write the full name out followed by the acronym the first time it's used - don't assume your audience has the same level of knowledge you do
  3. Would have been nice to have finished with an indication on a bullet point about the current situation, after the ICES recommendations.
