Basic Contents

Although the exact layout of your paper will depend on the journal you're submitting to, you should include most of the following:

Title
Abstract
Introduction
Materials and Methods
Results
Discussion
Conclusions
Acknowledgements
References.

Notice that this format is similar to that discussed earlier for lab reports and final year dissertations. Some journals prefer a combined Results and Discussions section, so check the Notes for Authors section of your chosen journal before you start writing.
