Before You Start Writing The layout and style of your paper will be determined by the journal you send it to. To avoid wasting your time reformatting or re-writing your paper, it's a good idea to decide which journal you're sending your work to before you start writing. The Notes for Authors section, which can be found on the journal's internet site or in a hard copy of the journal (usually on the reverse of the front or back page), will give you guidance on all aspects of writing your paper, from the text font and margin width to use of abbreviations and referencing format. Similar advice will be available for the use of figures, tables and plates (photographs).Although this website provides general advice on the section headings, contents and the use of figures, tables and plates, you should check the Notes for Authors section of your chosen journal before you begin writing. It is likely that your chosen journal will reject your paper if you don't adhere to its guidelines!! |
